AVA M.D. From her work as a board certified dermatologist, Assistant Professor of Clinical Dermatology at UCLA, and founder of Los Angeles’ Laser Institute for Dermatology and European Skincare medi-spa, Dr. Ava Shamban knows that healthy skin should be every patient’s ultimate goal. With her new skin care line, AVA M.D., the doctor has combined these two pursuits to create products that aim to deliver both looks and substance.Available online, at her spa and at select stores nationwide, AVA M.D. is made up of five core products. The sulfate-free Orange Calendula Wash ($32) cleanses and primes all skin types without drying, while the use-anytime Anti-Oxidant Mist ($44)—a client favorite—contains a triple anti-oxidant complex (algae extract, beta glucan and oat extract) to soothe sensitivity and prep skin for treatment. With a name that invokes the doctor’s TV role, the Extreme Specialist Replenishment Complex ($120) rescues very dry and stressed skin with humectants like Vitamin B5, green tea-based anti-oxidants, and milk peptides and yeast extracts to brighten and improve texture. For the sensitive eye area, Eyesite ($65) targets puffiness, dark circles and fine lines, while also acting as a no-slip base for makeup. The final staple might be the most important of all: Sun Security SPF 25 sunscreen ($35) gently moisturizes while offering oil-free, non-greasy protection from the rays. In addition to the core line, Dr. Shamban has created the Radical Departure Kit ($125), which jump-starts your skin care regime with a rejuvenating 14-day program. The four featured products include two from the main line (Orange Calendula Wash and Anti-Oxidant Mist) and two others: the AHA + BHA Lotion retexturizes skin, evens pigmentation and tone and relaxes muscle contractions, while the Retinoid Serum increases elasticity and cell renewal. And because healthy and beautiful skin should glow, the doctor’s Brilliant Lotion ($55)—the latest line addition—creates a smoother, brighter and more even look using bamboo and yeast extracts and moisturizing tri-peptides.
